Loudon County lies southwest of Knoxville along the Tennessee River and Tellico Lake, and about 62,000 people live here. Its cities, including Lenoir City, Loudon, Greenback and Philadelphia, all enforce their own residential codes, and Loudon County Planning and Codes Enforcement handles the rest. Lake and river exposure is the local roofing story: open water lets wind build, and the storm record shows it. On 7 August 2023, thunderstorm winds ripped the roof decking off the Loudon County High School gymnasium, according to NOAA's storm events database. Two-inch hail was reported near Dixie Lee Junction in March 2017, and an EF-0 tornado with 85 mph winds crossed southern Loudon County in May 2025.
